Well sad to say... Thurston Rd. is beginning to look like some very low end comercial streets that you often see in the Bronx. Is that the visionary direction we are heading in?

My guess is it is yours and my tax dollars, although I am not sure. There were public hearings posted on signs on certain stores. I know nothing more about this issue, though.

Mark, do you know anything about this alternate signage issue?? I sure hope that the city has not put any of my tax dollars into funding any of these signs. they are an absolute eye sore! So much for all of the wasted time at the 'visioning' events…

I live in the 19th ward with my partner of 25 years. I am a Licensed Social Worker and became self-employed in 2005. My business name is LifeWorks Consulting and in that capacity I provide consultation and training to a wide array of mental health programs throughout NY state. I also have a small private clinical practice. I have a variety of interests including photography, bbq, dogs, technology and people.

What's new on Thurston!

Driving down Thurston this evening was yet another disappointing experience. It is again/still filled with litter. THe 'clubs' were hopping with illegally parked cars. LOTS of people just hanging out.... I noticed yet another 'corner store'. But, the highlight of what's new on Thurston is a CASKET STORE!


I don't believe that i have ever seen a casket store before - and I find it strangely ironic

Snow, snow, snow - quick poll

Marlborough Road has a LOT of snow/slush still in the road and we've also had a LOT of residential plows clear driveways and leave snow in the road and/or in front of other driveways.
Any other streets having similar problems??

Thurston Road is depressing

I drive on Thurston every day, sometimes several times and decided today that I need to avoid it for a while. It depresses me! Aside from the Presbyterian Home and Hunts there are no signs of the holidays on Thurston. The Post Office does have some Christmas and Hanukah stamps for sale, but the area in front of the post office is filled with litter and trash. Renaissance Square.....

I've been following the recent Renaissance Square project/debate and would be interested in hearing more about how our elected City Officials viewed this project. I've seen Dana Miller's comments on TV and in the newspaper but haven't seen anything from any other city council members. Does anyone have additional information on how various council members viewed this project, how they voted, etc??

Hi Margy, at our meeting yesterday we talked about getting started on grant proposals, and sheri mentioned that you've got some experience with this. I do as well, and said I'd consult with MacClug vivian, who does a lot of grant-writing. We were very restrained about volunteering you in your absence :-), but I said I'd get in touch to see if you wanted to meet with MacClurg with me. Margy thanks for a great evening of wonderful food, conversation and new friends! Anthony and I had a great time. We can't stop talking about what a great place the 19th ward is to live. In all the places we have called home, we have never known more generous and welcoming people, then here in the 19h Ward.
