So many interesting issues related to the school issue ......
In terms of a forum for discussion of the school issue, i agree that it needs to include a BROAD view of interested parties- many ideas of who should be involved are listed above. To thos…
If I were to make such a list, PARENTS would be at the top: parents who nurture their children, parents who value education, care about their children, and are involved. Ironically many parents who fall in this category are sending their kids elsewh…
Are there really any documented cases of someone not being able to send their kid to the neighborhood school? My impression is that the "neighborhood schools" issue is as overblown as the "myth of the NET Nazis." Some very vocal landlords complained…
DeWain raises a good point. The thought behind neighborhood schools is that many parents are complaining that they do NOT have 100% chance at getting their neighborhood school. This is primarily coming from people in Browncroft and Park ave areas wh…
Thanks for the comments folks. I like Eleanor's comments that we should frame the discussion in terms of "How do we create learning environments that work for our kids?" From what I have seen, the solutions could come in either a school board-contro…
DeWain, like Margy, I do not have children (in any school). I do note that many of my neighbors will NOT send their kids to the RCSD schools. And I know new parents who have moved out of the neighborhood and are planning to move out because of the s…
I like your question about what is needed to improve the city schools better than who should lead. I think the deeper question that needs to be asked is, "How do we create learning environments that work for our kids?" From there, the leadership wil…

By the way, thanks for al…
Would like to, but not if problems are not abated.
Tell us about yourself:
I'm an electrical engineer, currently working at One Communications. I am passionately pro-city, but I am concerned that many problems in our city are not being properly addressed. I believe that we need to be pragmatic, honest and holistic in our approaches to addressing problems.
My wife, Amy, teaches at Bishop Kearney Middle School, and our two kids, Bobby and Rosemarie, attend Nazareth Hall elementary school.

Hi, DeWain! As you know I have agreed whole-heartedly with many or your expressed opinions and ideas in the past. It is great to see a picture of you and your family! Hope to meet you in person one day... :)
Welcome DeWain and Amy! Thank you so much for joining us here on Location19! I just read your bio, and understand what your talking about. I can only imagine what it must be like with children.
I do believe if we work together, we can create change in the 19th Ward. I now it will not happen over night. We certainly did not get here over night.
Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting you out around the Ward!
